I used a bit of poor planning today when I decided to take the kids to Tamarack Nature Center in White Bear, about 15 minutes drive from our house, before the kids annual check-ups.
This place is off the charts when it comes to awesome and we didn't even get to experience the best part...the water feature. (I kept them out of this sand hole because we were meeting the new pediatrician today and I didn't need them completely sooty and soaked.)
Tamarack features miles of running/hiking trails, a "learning center" where the kids can spend a bit of educational indoor time, and the crown jewel of this hot-spot is the Discovery Hollow.
Inside, there is an artificial rock canyon to climb up, over, around and through. You can build a wooden fort and jump off of stumps in the "Logs and Hollows." You can explore, water and harvest in the "Discovery Garden." And the feature which we will have to return for is a spring-fed stream where kids can build damns/bridges, splash in the water, sculpt the sand and you-name-it DIY creative outdoor fun.
