Need a new spot to watch the big lake on the North Shore? Planning a get-together for family or friends? The Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast in Two Harbors, MN is the perfect location to sit back, relax and enjoy the views.
We rented the entire house last weekend (4 bedrooms), sleeps 8 or so, and enjoyed all the property had to offer. A functioning lighthouse – the kids enjoyed each trip up the tower to gaze up at the rotating lights. Breakfast? On the house and served at 9.
No TV but plenty of rocks to throw into the lake. I imagine it's wonderful in the summer as well...probably more so.
We visited the nearly frozen Gooseberry Falls and revisited the Great Lakes Aquarium and the Maritime Museum. The North Shore never gets old for kiddos, but I'm happy to have found a new "hitching post" for we adults who need a little something new and sparkly.

You have probably written me off by now or perhaps found I'm more active on Instagram as of late. I've become attracted to all things instant because – like you – I've got about 3 seconds here-and-there to snap a memory.
When I'm not shuttling the little people or managing a house project I'm absolutely exhausted and even Netflix isn't able to keep me awake. You know what would? THE SUN! I'm ready for winter to be over.
I'm forgetting things. I'm forgetting adorable things my kids say because I'm so busy driving from point A to point B. I'm forgetting about all of the super fun resources we have here in the twin cities and if I spend one more minute saying "I need to bring my kids to the Swedish Institute" I'm going to pull them out of school and go already.
We've been taking our own "personal days" here and there – allowing us to spend time together in the day light – and Jahred has started a new job which brings him home in the evenings but eliminates the "daddy daycare" I have so enjoyed over the past 3 years.
Work is changing. The kids are changing. Our house is changing (THANK GOD).
I thought I would jot down a few things about my kids that will hopefully remind me when I'm old and senile that they were once just babies and I their mother.
Turns 8 in 13 days.
Chose watching an ice sculpture being created over a bouncy house.
The only person in his class (including the teachers) that believes in Groundhog Day.
"Mom, there's only 1 tally under 'believes' – that's me. That's always me. Leprechauns, Santa. I'm the only believer."
Sits cross legged around the sink to brush his teeth.
Stalls and stalls and stalls.
Last kid to leave the school. Every day.
Makes wild plans for the future and dreams about summer camp.
Advised his brother "not to scratch his penis too much in black Batman underwear or it would turn black." Ok - so I don't always wash things before letting my kids wear them. It happened like once and I'm pretty sure (without knowing for certain) that 'it' isn't still black. No harm done.
Wants to marry me and move into a purple house and have lots of "baby puppies and regular babies".
You can see all of his teeth when he smiles.
Told Axel's principal that he will "throw her in a garbage truck". :0
Makes a Cheerio necklace every day in preschool.
Says, "Want to hold hands all day?" constantly.
Picks out his own clothes.
Time goes by so quickly, sometimes that's good. Mostly it's frustrating. I tackled the bananas that have been rotten on my counter for about a week. Making banana bread finally – 4 days after bringing the mixer up to my counter and 3 days after softening the butter in the oven.
I did it because proving to my kids that I can follow through with life is more important than the 15 minutes I was going to use to read in silence.
I hope to share some amazing books with you soon. I have had a bit of time to indulge.
